One weekend in June, Rushlight Creative Director Devon Lyon and I traded in our everyday work gear for something a little fancier and headed to the Northwest Regional Emmy Awards in Seattle. It was such an honor - and a surprise - to be nominated in the Public Service Announcement category: Devon as director and me as producer, for a project that will always hold a special place in our hearts.
The nomination came from a spot we created with Moda and the Portland Trailblazers for their Moda Assist program, which builds accessible playgrounds across Oregon. It was one of those rare projects that not only let us flex our creative muscles, but also made a tangible difference in the community. We spent a full day on the playground, cameras rolling as kids laughed, climbed, and played their hearts out. Capturing their joy and energy reminded us why storytelling matters: it’s about shining a light on programs like Moda Assist and celebrating the communities they serve.

For me, the nomination carried an extra layer of meaning. I don’t come from an extensive background as a producer, in fact, it’s a career direction I never really anticipated. But over the past three years, I’ve been learning the craft from Devon and discovering how much I enjoy it. Meeting clients, helping their vision come to life, and then having that work recognized at this level was both humbling and incredibly fulfilling.
On the night of the ceremony, we arrived at Fremont Studios, walked the red carpet, posed for photos, and enjoyed a wonderful dinner. Being surrounded by so many other talented creatives from across the region was inspiring, an experience I hope to have again and again. While we didn’t take home the statue this time, being nominated and sharing the evening with our clients felt like a win in itself. Celebrating together, swapping stories, and connecting outside the usual project hustle made the night especially meaningful.
We’re proud of the work we created, grateful for the recognition, and excited about what’s ahead. Here’s to more stories, more collaboration, and maybe a little more red carpet down the road.
